Breakfast Seminar: Upcoming Competition Law Changes
Harbour Times is hosting a breakfast seminar with two speakers addressing the upcoming changes to the competition law and submissions made up to December 10th.
Participant-guests can bring their position papers for distribution by HT.
The event will be open to media.
Two renowned experts (details below) will speak and guests will be encouraged to participate in a Q&A and discussion.
Opinions from around the room will be collected and collated into a document for publication on HT. Comments will be unattributed.
Featured Speakers:
Bill Stacey – Chief Economist, Vanda Securities.
Bill serves as Vanda’s economist, China specialist and head of the firm’s Hong Kong operations. Bill is a leading expert on monetary and financial institutions and the public policy issues in micro economic reform. He has been widely published on competition law issues and studied competition law under some of its leading practitioners. He previously headed up the Asian investment banking operations for Keefe, Bruyette and Woods, and has also been a co-head of research for Aviate Global (Asia) as well as a director in equity research at Credit Suisse. Additionally Bill serves as the chairman of the Lion Rock Institute, a free market think tank, and is on the board of directors at the Mannkal Economic Education Foundation in Australia. He has an MBA from the University of Melbourne and a BA (1st class honors) from the University of Western Australia.
Andrew Amerasekera – Managing Consultant at ICF
ICF is an economic and public policy advisory firm (formerly GHK) that has had an office in Hong Kong for over 20 years.
Andrew trained as an economist in the UK, before working for the Civil Service there as an adviser on transport, housing and planning policies. 3 years ago, he joined ICF in Hong Kong, conducting market and economic assessments for a range of public and private clients.
In the competition sphere, Andrew recently conducted a review of the state of competition in container port handling services in Southeast Asia. He also conducted 2 studies for the Competition Commission of Singapore: one to review the impact of joint venture alliances between airlines, and the other to define markets for competition between retail malls.
Andrew is currently working with the Hong Kong Planning Department to map out Hong Kong’s commercial and industrial land requirements for the next thirty years. He sits on Environment Committees of Business Environment Council and the British Chamber of Commerce.
Andrew holds a MA Economics from Cambridge University and a MSc Economics from the London School of Economics.
