TIC head concludes six-year tenure; Permanent Secretary for InnoTech named; Appointments to Hospital Authority, Financial Reporting Council, and Social Welfare Advisory Committee.

Travel Industry Council chairman to step down

Michael Wu Siu-ieng (胡兆英) will step down as Chairman of the Travel Industry Council next month after holding the post for six years.

During his tenure, Wu ‘privatised’ the Staff and Finance Committee and the Compliance Committee by introducing independent board directors outside the industry as convenors. He also set up stricter regulations on mainland travel agencies in wake of an increasing number of scandals related to mainland trips and visitors.

In an interview with Ming Pao, Wu recalled the most knotty task when dealing with a group of tourists, including pro-est lawmaker Ann Chiang, who staged an ‘occupy’ protest on a cruise.

The next chairman will be elected from among the directors next month.
