Heads of InvestHK and Labour Party to step down; New Travel Industry Council chairman elected.
Farewell Simon!
InvestHK Director-General Dr Simon Galpin will leave his post after serving there for 15 years. He will assume the post of Managing Director of Bahrain’s Economic Development Board as soon as mid-February.
HT made a small farewell for people to share their messages of friendship and gratitude to the outgoing veteran.
Lee Cheuk-yan makes way for young unionists
Lee Cheuk-yan (李卓人) of Labour Party said he would step down as the party’s chairman as a general meeting will be held on Sunday to vote for a new term of leadership. His party and LegCo comrade, vice chairperson Cyd Ho (何秀蘭), will also make way for the younger party members. The two, together with Fernando Cheung (張超雄) will remain as executive committee members.
Secretary General Steven Kwok Wing-kin (郭永健), vice chairperson Cheng Sze-lut (鄭司律) and former executive committee member Suzanne Wu Shui-shan (胡穗珊) would run for the chairman post.
Kwok is the party’s first district councillor after winning in the Tai Po District Council San Fu Constituency By-election in July 2015. However his councillorship is also the most short-lived in Hong Kong’s history as he lost his seat to Lo Hiu-fung (羅曉楓), son of Kwok’s predecessor Lo Sou Chour (羅舜泉) in the district council elections 165 days later.
Hong Tai Travel general manager named new head of Travel Industry Council
Jason Wong Chun-tat (黃進達), 35, became to the youngest chairman of the Hong Kong Travel Industry Council after beating Managing Director of Goldjoy Travel Ltd Freddy Yip (葉慶寧) by 21 votes to 8.
Wong is the Director and General Manager of Hong Thai Travel Services Ltd.
Two appointed to Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service
The Government appointed Alfred Chan Wing-kin (陳永堅) and Dieter Yih (葉禮德) and reappointed Benjamin Yu (余若海), younger brother of Civic Party chairlady Audrey Eu (余若薇), as members of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service for a term of two years with effect from January 1, 2016.
Chan is the chairman of Towngas China Company Ltd while Yih is the former president and current councillor of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
Chan and Yih will replace the outgoing Chow Chung-kong (周松崗) and Lester Garson Huang (黃嘉純).
