Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi greeted CY Leung on his first official visit to India, with both sides saying that they would seek closer ties on trade, investment and tourism.
“The Prime Minister and Mr. CY Leung agreed to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation, especially in the financial services sector, as well as cooperation in the field of education,” a statement by the PM’s office read.
Big talks with big smiles, but Indians have been caught up in the discussions around introducing visa restrictions from countries that generate many refugee claims among their nationals arriving in Hong Kong. While the Director of Immigration was non-committal on the subject, the suggestion that Indians could lose their visa-free access to Hong Kong generated the ire of Indian leaders in Hong Kong.
