On May 9th, the EU Office hosted the celebration of the EU Day 2016, with booths of its member states serving foods and drinks that highlighted quality and diversity of European cuisine.

Financial Secretary John Tsang, the guest of honour, just couldn’t get away without mentioning Leicester City winning the Premier League when delivering his speech.

Vincent Piket, head of the EU Office in Hong Kong and Macao, took the opportunity to promote the recently launched ‘Tasty Europe 2016’ to the Financial Secretary, who was the guest of honour for the third time in Mr Piket’s four years of tenure.

Prior to the reception, a seminar entitled “Ideas from Europe, Ideas from Hong Kong” was held, noting the first European TEDx event organised by the Netherlands (which holds the rotating Presidency of the EU). Keynote speakers included Wilfred Mohr, Consul General of The Netherlands to Hong Kong, Nicholas Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Joseph Sung, vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Richard Burton and Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, with Mr Piket delivering the closing remarks.
