There is hardly a cooler way to start your duties as a diplomat in Hong Kong with ‘wings’.

On 13 July, Damián Martínez Tagüeña, the new Mexican Consul General, made his first public appearance at the inauguration of the exhibition “Wings of Mexico” at the Statue Square Garden in Central. The sculpture is the most famous work of Mexican sculptor Jorge Marin, and will be on display for three months until 25 September as part of a wide range of activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong and Macao.

Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Godfrey Leung King-kwok (梁敬國), who represented the government at the event, noted that the two economies had embarked negotiations on an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.

Before arriving in Hong Kong, the new Consul General served as Head of Chancery at the Embassy of Mexico in Austria since 2014.
