On 8 August, 2016, Franz Roessler took over the position of Austrian Trade Commissioner and Consul (Commercial Affairs) being in charge for Hong Kong, Macao and South China.
Mr Roessler graduated from the Karl Franzens University in Graz in 1993 with a Diploma in Business Administration.
His diplomatic journey began with ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, Austria’s official promotion organisation, at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber in the same year. His adventures took him to in Warsaw, Beijing and Washington from 1995 to 2004. After two years as Regional Director South-Eastern Europe of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA in Vienna, Mr Roessler was appointed Austrian Trade Commissioner in Chicago between 2006 to 2014, during which he was also Chairman of the Chicago International Trade Commissioners’ Association from January 2010 to December 2011.
Mr Roessler returned to Vienna in 2014, where he acted as Director Corporate Communications before arriving in Hong Kong.
Mr Roessler’s predecessor, Christian Schierer, has moved on to his new position as Trade Commissioner for France in Paris. We wish him well! Perhaps he and Evert Maréchal might be spotted in Paris reminiscing about their Hong Kong days and comparing Belgian and Austrian beers.
