New police watchdog head assures impartiality

Former deputy commissioner of the Customs and Excise Department Yu Koon-hing (俞官興) has assumed role as new secretary general of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC).

Yu dismissed worries that his background from the Disciplined Services will hinder the police watchdog’s integrity, stressing that his experience will instead help him “better understand the complaints.”

Yu replaced Ricky Chu Man-kin (朱敏健) who has been rehired by the Independent Commission Against Corruption to head the investigation team on the government sector.
