Pan-democrats increase leadership in LegCo panels

The pan-democrats have claimed 13 panel posts out of 25 elected, an increase compared to the previous year. Determination of 11 posts is pending owing to various procedural reasons (ie. filibustering and prolonged debates on procedural issues).

Government establishes new Museum Advisory Committee

The Home Affairs Bureau has announced the establishment of the Museum Advisory Committee (MAC) to centralise advisory works for the public museums under the management of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), and the appointments to the first term of the MAC for a period of two years from 20 October, 2016, to 19 October, 2018.

Stanley Wong Yuen-fai (黃遠輝), a non-executive director of the Urban Renewal Authority, will chair the new committee and its 20 members.

The MAC, to be supported by three standing sub-committees on art, history and science respectively, will succeed the Art Museum Advisory Panel, the History Museum Advisory Panel and the Science Museum Advisory Panel, to continue to advise the LCSD on the strategies for development, promotion and management of the public museums.

 

New appointment to Land and Development Advisory Committee

Douglas Woo Chun-kuen (吳宗權) has been appointed as a non-official member of the Land and Development Advisory Committee (LDAC) to take over from Gordon James Ongley as Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong’s representative on the LDAC. The term of Mr Woo’s appointment is from 21 October, 2016 to 30 June, 2018. Mr Ongley ceased to be a non-official member of the LDAC on July 14, 2016.

Mr Woo is chairman and managing director of the Wheelock and Company Limited. He is also currently the Chairman of the Environment and Conservation Fund Committee.

 

BOC senior officer joins Standing Committee on Directorate Salaries and Conditions of Service

The Government has appointed Ann Kung Yeung Yun-chi (龔楊恩慈), Deputy Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong), to be a member of the Standing Committee on Directorate Salaries and Conditions of Service (Directorate Committee) for a term of two years from 1 November, 2016, to 31 October, 2018.

The Directorate Committee tenders advice to the Government on matters relating to the structure, pay and conditions of service of directorate ranks in the civil service. It is currently chaired by HKGCC chairman Pang Yiu-kai (彭耀佳) and comprises Clement Chen Cheng-jen (陳鎮仁), Peter Sit Kien-ping (薛建平), Ivan Sze Wing-hang (施榮恆) and Betty Yuen So Siu-mai (阮蘇少湄).

 

Elderly care veteran appointed to Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee

The Government has announced the appointment of Dr Lam Ching-choi (林正財) to the Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee and the re-appointment of 14 serving non-official members.

Dr Lam is the Chief Executive Officer of the Haven of Hope Christian Service. He is also currently the Chairman of the Elderly Commission and the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund Committee, and a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications and the Land and Development Advisory Committee.
