Peter Mathieson takes early leave from HKU.
Peter Mathieson has resigned from the University of Hong Kong and will take up a new appointment as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh.
In an email to HKU members, Mathieson said he was leaving for “personal reasons.”
Mathieson assumed office as the 15th President and Vice-Chancellor on a five-year term in April 2014, five months before the outbreak of the Umbrella Movement followed by a row over the rejected appointment of Johannes Chan as pro-vice-chancellor.
Arthur Li, chairman of the HKU Council, will likely head the select committee for the next vice-chancellor.
