Bangladesh welcomed the community to the Holiday Inn Golden Mile to celebrate their National Day!
On Monday 27 March, 2017, the Bangladesh Consulate General hosted a reception in celebration of the 46th anniversary of the independence and national day of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The late hours of 25 March, 1971, marked the start of a war for Bangladeshi independence from Pakistan which lasted for nine months. After two decades of economic fluctuations, the South Asian country has managed a steady increase in its GDP growth rate since early 1990s and became the second fastest growing major economy of 2016 according to the IMF.
Addressing the floor, Bangladesh Consul General Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood said his country will join the top 30 economies in terms of GDP by 2030. Financial Secretary Paul Chan, the guest of honour, also hailed the fast-growing market, adding that investments from Hong Kong are rapidly flowing into this Belt and Road country. A year ago, the city hosted the 4th Bangladesh Investment Summit.
Among the distinguished guests were Deputy Commissioner Song Ru’an of the Chinese MFA office in Hong Kong, Malaysian Consul General Tengku Sirajuzzaman bin Tengku Mohamed Ariffin, Kuwaiti Consul General Khaled B Al-Mutairi, Qatari Economic Advisor Anas Hafez and Director of Protocol Judy Li.
