On 14 June, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Hong Kong hosted a reception celebrating the National Day of Russia. Commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic on June 12, 1990. Distinguished guests included members from the Russian, business and diplomatic communities in Hong Kong, among them the new Myanmar and South African Consul Generals.
Russian Consul General, Alexander Kozlov, began by praising the achievements of the Russian community both in Hong Kong and in Russia, stating: “Last year was rather a good one for my country.” Kozlov moved on to the captivating topics of nuclear powered icebreakers for Arctic exploration and prospects for the Russian Rugby 7s team. Guest of honour for the night and Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, Paul Chan, mentioned the government’s plan to open a trade office in Moscow this year.
A display of fine Russian artwork was also set to expose guests to the artistic aspects of Russian culture.
