On May 26 2015, Gustavo Fazzari tangoed with the elite of the diplomatic community – and CE CY Leung.

May 25 is the National Day for Argentina. In commemoration of the 205th anniversary of the May Revolution in 1810, The Argentine Consulate General in Hong Kong held a cocktail party, celebrating their special day and Argentine presence in Hong Kong since 1939.

The Consulate invited Chinese tango champions to give a performance, accordion music graced Club Lusitano and, of course, the famous Argentine wine brightened the mood.

One of highlights of the evening was the appearance of Chief Executive CY Leung. Regulars on the diplomatic circuit will know that while Carrie Lam, John Tsang, Rimsky Yuen and Tsang Tak-sing are regulars, the top man himself only makes a rare outing. He seemed to be popular that evening, staying to take a blizzard of selfies and other photos with fans.

As Gustavo Fazzari, Argentine Consul General to Hong Kong, noted in his speech, cultural exchange is a big part in Argentina-Hong Kong interaction. The common language between the two ends of the Pacific is, perhaps, the passion for tango and football. As more trade agreements are being signed and with a working holiday agreement underway, Argentina and Hong Kong will only become closer.
