Canadian Consul General Ian Burchett hosts his last Canada Day cocktail reception in Hong Kong before heading back to Ottawa.

The Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong held a cocktail reception yesterday (27 June) evening in early celebration of Canada Day at the Rotunda, Exchange Square.
The evening’s highlight was Hong Kong-Canadian 8-year-old singer Celine Tam (譚芷昀)’s rendition of Canadian and Chinese anthems, as well as Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”. Guests enjoyed gourmet delicacies freshly delivered from Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
The theme #CoolConnectedCanada – or #CanadaConnecté in French – ties in well with the recent personnel changes at the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong, as Consul General Ian Burchett is concluding his four-year term in Hong Kong soon.
“I know that you will support the next Consul General with your same warmth and enthusiasm,” Burchett said in his speech. He ended the address with a pun of the Canadian pop hit, “I will be back in Ottawa but please – let’s stay connected. Call me maybe?”
Apart from official celebrations, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce organised a skate party and lunch on 25 June. Families gathered at the skating rink of the Elements to stay cool during the hot summer day.
