Americans abroad gathered to watch elections results that diverged wildly from their on-site straw poll – 9 to 1 for HRC.
Shock and awe were the order of the day, as Americans abroad seem to be wildly out of step with their North American compatriots.
Correspondents, analysts, international observers and zealous supporters in Hong Kong gathered at the American Chamber of Commerce event at Jones Lang Lasalle’s Hong Kong office today and to watch Donald Trump vanquish Hillary Clinton.
AmCham President Dr Richard Vuylsteke and his team hosted a live RTHK broadcast, Reuters on site reporting and more at the CNN sponsored event. Republicans Abroad and Democrats Overseas at least enjoyed Starbucks Coffee and Emack & Bolio’s ice cream for breakfast.
The on-site straw poll saw the viewers stump 9 to 1 for Hillary Rodham Clinton, with even many Republicans Overseas members apparently grudgingly surrendering their vote to their traditional opposition. But Americans abroad are a different animal from their domestically domiciled countrymen, suggesting non-Americans should be nice to them in days ahead. They’ll need sympathy and support. There was one vocal Trump supporter. She didn’t have a red “Make America Great Again” hat, but did say, “at least I have red hair.”
